One Million Dollar Big Bang from Hublot

Wow! What a marvelous timepiece. The One Million $ BB (Big Bang) is an excellent fusion of jewellery and watchmaking. The watchmaking brand Hublot and the Bunter SA diamond-setting workshop have together created Big Bang with totally invisible setting. Thus the material disappears and only the diamond is revealed. Watch experts say that Big Bang represents a ‘performance on a par with Faberge’s egg.’ The case, dial and buckle of this exclusive watch is completely covered by more than 493 Top Wesselton ‘baguette’ diamonds! The case is made of 18 k white gold. It’s the first ever watch with flying tourbillion movement and realized in ‘serti mysterieux’. Now you must be wondering what is ‘serti mysterious?’ Let me tell you, the serti mysterieux (mysterious setting) is a technique of jewelry invented by Van Cleef & Arpels (Paris) to hide under the stones all the frame of jewels. You can only see the diamonds or the stones, not the structure which is holding them. You’ll be surprised to know that more than 2,000 hours have gone into its making, from design through to research and development, machine programming, choice of (micro-)precision tools, the cutting of the diamonds, the visual examination of each part, setting, casing and fine-tuning. This dazzling timepiece unveiled at Baselworld has already been sold, but I hope that Hublot will continue creating such amazing pieces.

Legendary oceanliner Titanic gets transformed into Luxury watches

If you want to own a piece of the legendary oceanliner Titanic, here’s your chance to grab it. Instead of framing shattered pieces of steel of the ship on the walls of your living room, you get the opportunity to carry and show it off when you are on the move. Yes, these shattered pieces are being transformed into beautiful luxury watches that claim to capture the essence of the legendary oceanliner which sank in 1912 and only a few people will get the opportunity to own them as only 2012 pieces are made to coincide with the centenary anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking. Geneva watch maker Romain Jerome purchased about 1.5 kg of the legendary oceanliner from an unidentified seller which was certified as authentic by the builders of Titanic, Harland and Wolff. The company created an alloy using the slab from the Titanic with steel being used in a Harland and Wolff replica of the vessel. The swiss watch maker has created gold, platinum and steel watches having black dial faces made of lacquer paint that includes charcoal and real steel recovered from the debris of the wreckage. So many rich people buy incredibly complicated watches without understanding how they work, because they want a story to tell,” he said. To them we offer a story. It is a message of hope, of life stronger than death, of rebirth says Yvan Arpa, chief executive of Romain Jerome. The watches are expensive and are aimed at those who love to own unusual and exclusive pieces; costing between $7,800 and $173,100 a piece. The three year old company says that in order to stand out from the crowd, you have to create something different and interesting and has managed to do just that!
