I’ve been writing about watches for some time now and have always wondered how they keep on improving these almost perfect machines. And now to add to my further amazement, Philip Lutolf just added to its repertoire, a wristwatch, which uses helical springs instead of spiral springs to generate power.
These springs produce 20 times the power as compared to the usual spiral spring. According to Lutolf, this watch is not about power reserve but it’s about power. I wonder maybe someday they’ll add a car engine to a watch!

The design may be unveiled by January 2009, and it may cost anywhere between half a million to a million Swiss Francs.
